Too true, re easy money.

I was 20 (going back 30 years) and worked with a few carpenters who used to be barge and crane crew in the North Sea. Huge money.

Then they would go into Antwerp and blow it all on the best hotels, "female companionship" etc.

There they were, 20 years later,standing in the mud next to me on a building site slogging their guts out.

I learned a very important lesson on that job that has stayed with me all my life.
