Police at Ravenswood are stepping up patrols following an increase in unlicensed fossickers with metal detectors trespassing on private property.
Officer in charge Senior Constable Wade Hastie attributed the increase in fossicking to the release of a new metal detector that is alleged to detect deeper in the ground, finding gold that was left behind. "As word has spread about different people finding things a lot more people are heading out to try and find their fortune," he said.
