Unit 2 of the Sendai nuclear power plant in Japan is expected to restart Oct. 15.
Kyushu Electric Power Co. said it completed loading fuel into 157 assemblies Sept. 13 and plans to begin final inspections on Friday. Unit 1 returned to service in August.
All of the commercial reactors in Japan shut down after the March 2011earthquake and tsunami that led to the nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. The reactors remained offline when the country'sNuclear Regulation Authority implemented safety checks and rules that plant operators had to complete before restart.
The Sendai reactors are the first units in the country to have completed all the requirements and restart.
