I've just given you the answer - afterpay will NEVER NEVER admit to needing credit bureau data because such an admission undermines their attempts to market their business as a 'marketing channel', which they hope will entitle them to bypass obligations around responsible lending, and no surcharge.
forget 'quant models' , forget utilisation , forget upfront 25% payments... it comes down to unintended business consequences.
