    That's complete nonsense Stefan.

AfterPay don't use the credit bureau because

    1. they have high volume but low value ticket transactions
    2. they don't see themselves as a 'credit provider', so if they do utilise the credit bureau it undermines the narrative they are trying to sell to regulators, and potential , current investors.

    AfterPay are trying to avoid
    - responsible lending obligations,
    - they are trying to maintain their 'no surcharge rule'
    - they will continue offering low value, high volume ticket transactions to their customers

...so utilising the credit bureau simply contradicts and undermines their overall objectives.

Put it simply, because they sell themselves as a 'marketing channel' (which btw is a complete joke) they've disqualified themselves from even considering utilising the credit bureau. They can't have BOTH!

btw, any credit risk management team understands that application scoring has now become redundant...credit bureau scores (updated every month and captures actual performance of applicants entire credit accounts) has become the most important credit data point...what the applicant declares on application forms or during the onboarding process (eg declared time in residence, declared time in employment) have become less critical now that positive credit reporting is now up and running.
