You are not alone there mate. I am a newbie who had not even heard about short selling this time last year. When you work it out, let me know.
All I can gather is that it is some kind of price manipulation in which shorters band together and target a potential S.P. hoping to profit by borrowing shares from institutions and returning them at a profit margin. Seems BS to me, but then what would I know. I shall continue reading with interest.
