try telling a customer, sir we don't offer that merchant right now but if you check back with us next month we might... That's Afterpays official response when they don't offer a merchant customers want.
What would you do if you were a customer wanting to buy that brand? You'd google alternative to Afterpay or you'd get our your credit/ debit card and just buy it.
The buy anything from any merchant and bnpl it could mean tremendous increase in transaction volume and TTV. It won't happen overnight but in 6 months I went from trying zip app out to using the tap and zip daily.
if zip only offered the ability to bnpl merchants they had signed. If they didn't offer one time cards for online and no at to tap and zip in store than I wouldn't value the zip app as highly as I do. It's be a token app I check in from time to time for sales and hopefully some new merchants signed. But with zip it's much more important for me. .that's where Afterpay sits right now. It's a discretionary app for discretionary spend. Is not a valuable app because it doesn't do much.
