Zali Steggall must be a candidate for the greatest hypocrite to wangle herself elected to the Australian Federal Parliament. In March 2019 standing for Warringha as having environmental cred against ex PM Tony Abbott her campaign got a donation of $100,000 from the noted coal investor John Kinghorn whose investments had links to Eddie Obeid and the Mount Penny corrupt coal licences scandal involving the former Minister for Mines Ian MacDonald. Both Obeid and MacDonald have done or are doing Jail-time. Keeping "top secret stumm about the donation" Ms Steggall's GetUp staff split the $100,000 into eight separate sums in a successful scheme to avoid disclosure. Taking years keeping the secret - the AEC reported early in 2021 on Steggall's Kinghorn donation and ruled that it could not be split. The AEC report only became widely known when reported on by media(SMH) early in 2022. But all this ignores the huge "elephant in the room" which is that if Warringah voters had known all this "coal donation true facts" in April and May 2019 then it is possible that Tony Abbott may have hung on to his seat. A normal person in Steggall's shoes would be so ashamed of all the years of secrecy and the adverse AEC findings. But all that is nothing to MP Zali.
