Steggall is driving an SUV just like every other suburban mum in Australia . Apparently there's something wrong with that according to the perpetually offended hand wringers.
Even if she drove a Model X Tesla SUV which is around $200k +, it would hardly be setting an example for the millions of Australian's that can't afford a Model X.
Those more observant people who aren't right wing conservatives might notice that Steggall is driving a Nissan Pathinder. Depending on the model, it's a 50k + car. If she were to drive a $ 200k + Range Rover maybe the trolls would have a point. She has stated that she has to cart around 5 kids so she needs a vehicle of that size. How many 7 seat electric vehicles are there for sale in Australia for around $ 50k ?

Steggall's platform is for a cleaner environment. That means utilising things like electric vehicles which either aren't available or are prohibitively expensive for the average Australian right now. At the moment, the Federal government offers no incentives or assistance for the average Australian to purchase an ev unlike many other modern countries, therefore we don't have the choices that other countries do. So, it is people like Steggall that will be pushing for things like that to change so that the average person in Australia, including herself, might be able to purchase an electric SUV when they become available.
One person driving a very expensive electric SUV isn't going to do much about climate change. One person in parliament that helps make cheaper electric vehicles more available in Australia is going to achieve a whole lot more.
Sorry trolls, you're going to have to come up with a better argument than that.
