    A method, comprising:

    introducing indocyanine green into a patient;
    using confocal endomicroscopy to detect a tumor in brain tissue of the patient based on fluorescence from the indocyanine green;
    using a surgical microscope to observe the brain tissue concurrently to using the confocal microscopy; and
    performing surgery on the brain tissue concurrently to using the confocal microscopy.
