Zero Emission / Zero Impact Mining

After following these threads for a long time, and the broader discourse around battery metal mining, including pros and cons of laterite vs sulphide in Australia and overseas, I think this topic warrants a dedicated thread.

Looking around at the success of various listed entities in the battery metal space (I won't name for fear of being flagged as cross promoting), it strikes me that zero emissions and zero/low impact mining more broadly, is emerging as a key differentiator and source of strategic advantage when it comes to securing finance and partners.

So this is a thread to discuss all things zero emissions/zero impact related, including research that can help prospective investors understand Ardea's credentials in this area, and even Ardea management.

To kick things off, I recently came across this article - https://www.mining.com/testing-at-giga-metals-turnagain-nickel-project-shows-potential-for-carbon-neutrality/.

While it is focused on the carbon credentials of a potential competitor to Ardea, it points to the fact that rates of carbonation of tailings in ultramafic mines is significantly higher (like 600x higher). I believe most of Ardea's core Ni assets are on ultramafic.

While any conclusions drawn are subject to further research, I think it is just one of many interesting topics to explore here, and ultimately issues with the energy and carbon intensity of laterite mining many be overblown, particularly when it comes to Ardea.
