Defence Trailblazer is investing in the development and commercialisation of quantum silicon technology, which is essential for building silicon quantum computers. Quantum silicon technology involves the production of zero spin silicon (ZS-Si), a material that has very low levels of impurities and can host quantum bits (qubits) that store and process quantum information.
Defence Trailblazer has funded a project with Silex Systems Limited and Silicon Quantum Computing Pty Ltd to establish a Quantum Silicon (Q-Si) Production Plant in Sydney, which will deliver an end-to-end Australian manufacturing facility for producing ZS-Si. This project will create a sovereign supply chain for critical quantum materials and support the development of atom-scale quantum computers in Australia.
