Elsewhere, industrial metals jumped on the London Metal Exchange, as nickel
prices surged nearly 10 percent and copper gained nearly 4 percent. Zinc rose
more than 5 percent. Regarding the effect of the Fed's rate cut on base metals,
UBS analysts said in a report Tuesday "anything that supports economic growth is
bullish for industrial metals, especially those metals that have low stocks such
as copper, lead and zinc."
