It's to allow a customer to have an everyday bank account. I expect the strategy is to have customers pay entire salary into their zip account and over time they can cut out the bank (and over time zip becomes the bank for the next gen given they will fall under similar banking regulation anyway).
Margin on a BNPL debt much better than home mortgage (provided the debt is paid back!) so they could offer higher interest rates and attract more money in to fund operations. I've thought for a while that this has to be a key strategy step and with current outlook a lot more important than crypto trading so hoping they are actively working on it.
