removing credit checks is crazy talk.
afterpay do not perform credit checks because a) it will be too costly per transaction, particularly for lower ticket items b) they do not see themselves as 'credit providers' so utilising the credit bureau will undermine that narrative that they're trying to sell.
credit checks are powerful data predictors...don't be fooled by apt marketing speak
