Technology progresses at a very fast pace, India won't hold onto its 2G network forever and already there are plans for nationwide 4G rollouts. In the first link above they're talking about having a 4G network which will cover 90% of urban India and are planning on starting services in March next year. Apparently the infrastructure is in place already. Is Ziptel's technology as revolutionary over 4G as it is (claimed to be) over 2G? 4G technology is capable of at least 100mbit/s and can get up to 1gbit/s so why would saving a few kilobytes be of any relevance over 4G?
