Here's an article for the OneNZ deal with SpaceX.
The article says no need to upgrade phones, current smartphones will work. Initially only SMS and MMS but eventually voice and data. Also mentions a US Telco signing a similar deal with SpaceX.

These two articles about Spark and 2degrees going with Lynk for their plans for phone to satellite service. 2degrees has already started trials. Sounds like Lynk will continue to build it's low orbit satellite coverage to make this a reality for customers.
So the way I see it, Garmin and Zoleo face stalling growth and likely even loss of customers within the next 2-5 years. I myself look forward to ditching my InReach.
