Zoleo is currently sold out on Amazon.com after a nice run of strong sales in the last few weeks. I use some analytical tools which are fairly accurate suggesting the run rate was approx 40,000 units sold pa from Amazon.com alone - I’d imagine in store physical retailers are contributing significantly also to sales. Europe and Oceania regions benefit from these US devices out there in the ecosystem as it gives new market retailers confidence to range the device and further global marketing exposure through word of mouth, social proof etc (such as more people talking about it online).

There is a reasonable business to be had even with niche or small market share in a global population. I’m not sure Beam needs to have more than a slim slice of the satellite comms market.

It’s possible that developments in the mobile device world largely just add new consumers who would not have otherwise bought a dedicated satellite device anyway - it could potentially be a “gateway drug” to a more specialist device if they then recognize the value and want more or greater functionality that comes from a dedicated device. I am sure Beam will come up with enhanced features as the market progresses that will provide a sustainable commercial platform for them. Again, this stock is priced for absolute obsolescence which is perhaps misguided. Things can change but in both directions. There is nothing wrong with waiting for more information to come to light as to how things progress with the competitive landscape, but by the time you have absolute certainty you probably won’t have much of an investment reward on the table.
