If you use a good broker you won't have minimum order sizes, although this is typically only viable if you trade in larger overall size. With my broker I can place many small orders in a name and only get charged brokerage once per day for the buys in a name and once for the sells, with a minimum brokerage of $33.

i.e I buy 1000 ZNO at 14, 5000 at 15, 100,000 at 16, 300,000 at 16.5 in the same day, I only pay brokerage once at 0.06% of the total value of those trades

but if I buy 500 ZNO shares at 15c as my only trade in ZNO for the day I pay $33
