I really doubt that riding the horse differently has caused the death as you imply (if i've understood your posts correctly). Different riding tactics may have broken the horses heart and effected it psychologically but putting it under intense physical pressure by riding it up front would not have been the sole reason of the death. Obviously something may have been wrong with the horse prior to the race but they can't talk so connections were probably unaware that something was amiss and riding tactics would have made minimal difference to the outcome.
Not having a go at you and sorry you didn't win the $$ but I just don't believe riding tactics would've made any difference in this case, it probably would've run last and died even if it was ridden back in the field.
