I see this question a lot ------ now in this particular case it may not be, however, in general the answer to

"It's senseless and its shocking and it's very raw," Mr Crisafulli said.
"Again we wake to a story like this a community that's left to pick up the pieces.
"It has rocked the area, and it has rocked the state
. How did we get to the point in Queensland where a visit to the shops can cost you your life?"

well - for a lot of crime, not all, but a lot of it ----------- we got to the point by not looking after people

no social and welfare housing for a start. Limited funding to certain low socioeconomic groups. Keeping people trapped in poverty -

poverty and exclusiveness drives people to bad things -----

maybe that is not the case for this particular event - but it sure is the case for a lot of crime in society

people will treat society as society treats them --------

if society can't or won't house people, if society can't or won't feed people, if society won't include people and continually reject them ---------

then the answer is right there to the question of

''How did we get to the point in Queensland where a visit to the shops can cost you your life?"

easy ------- we are there because of the systematic failure of being a caring society
