Constraints in copper mining
Copper supply has been strained by operational and political instability in regions where it is mined, including Congo, Kazakhstan, and Panama in particular. Over the past year, an estimated 3 of global copper supply has been disrupted due to these factors.
Moreover, copper's supply response is notoriously slow. A typical copper mine can take about 10-15 years to explore, develop and bring online. There are no quick fixes like shale wells in the oil and gas industry, which can be operational within a year.
As a result of these factors, the copper market is barrelling towards a significant deficit and a price surge over the next few years/decades that EVN shareholders should not discount.
