Doesn't matter about the expenses of equities bought with credit . The point is that wealthy people can speculate in the stock market and claim the interest thus reducing their tax . Exactly the same as the property investor . The argument that is being used is that wealthy people are getting a tax deduction opportunity that the lower income earner doesn't get .
One could argue that at least the property investor is providing a place for someone to live in .
Please don't tell me that if the investors in those properties weren't there all the young families would be able to then afford those properties . Look at other big cities around the world that don't have negative gearing . The inner city more desirable properties are still well out of reach for the average buyer .
