    “ WASHINGTON — The Pentagon plans to send a special operations intelligence and strike force of between 100 and 150 troops to Iraq to conduct raids on Islamic State targets in Iraq and Syria, a senior Defense official told USA TODAY Tuesday.
    Defense Secretary Ash Carter told Congress about the extra troops Tuesday but did not specify how many. The Defense official spoke on condition of anonymity because officials were not authorized to comment publicly on details of the new force. The team will include intelligence analysts and special operations troops skilled in conducting raids, the source said. Often those troops include Navy SEALs and the Army's Delta Force. ...”

    “ Germany’s cabinet has approved plans to send up to 1,200 troops to the Middle East as part of a multi-million euro mission to support the fight against Isis.
    Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, has stated that armed forces will not fight or launch bombing missions, but work to support countries including France, the US and Russia.
    A proposal for Germany to send Tornado reconnaissance jets, refuelling aircraft, a frigate to protect a French aircraft carrier and the supporting soldiers necessary for the deployment was approved by the cabinet this morning and will go to a vote in Germany’s parliament later this week. ...”

    “ The United Kingdom is divided over the decision to extend air strikes into Syria, according to figures from a new polling organisation.
    With the vote in the Commons on Wednesday now expected to give David Cameron a substantial majority in favour of British bombers targeting Isis inside Syria, voters in Scotland and the rest of the UK hold divergent views on the need for further military action.
