As a former cabbie I've been involved in a class action against Uber for the last five years.
The claim was that Uber entered our market illegally, thereby decimating a legitimate tax-paying industry bound by strict rules and regulations.
This, with the tacit acceptance of gutless state governments who refused to enforce the law and were bedazzled by the emergence of the hallowed gig economy.
So cabbies and operators sued them for $1.8 billion. Regardless, Uber dogged it on the eve of the hearing and so got off lightly:
