Anydaynow - interesting point, but I doubt the results are tainted. Something caused them to revisit their info before database lock, but it could be good, bad or indifferent. Total guess - ambiguity in the data that lead to a recheck of subjective input from the patients' study partners.

Best case - the secondary results were astoundingly good, breakthrough status good, so good that the investigators have had to go through all the subjective data provided by the study partners and clarify any trace of ambiguity. This result will be challenged and needs to be rock solid.

Worst case - the patients went bonkers and ate the investigators. Delays caused by recruitment of new staff who duly note an improvement in the patients' appetite.

Meh case - results are so dull that investigators lack the will to complete their analysis. Database lock is used as an excuse and all data is re-entered in a different font.

Bad jokes aside - I like the science, it would be great to make some inroads into these diseases (mother + father-in-law with dementia\AD), but I realised a while back that trying to assign motives to announcements and delays just keeps me amused. I guess something has to.
