The only legitimate reason for this war is and should always have been the liberation of a trampled and suffering people.

That the US did not initially mount this as the prime argument gives us an indication that the UN couldn't care less about the subjugation of Iraq by the Ba'ath Regime and maybe thus the US had to appeal to the world's self interest with the WMD argument.

Regardless of whether WMD are found or not a greater good will be the liberation of the Iraqi people.

Most of us with any empathy feel for those affected by the present war but rather than turn on the liberators are hopeful that the suffering now, will lead to the ultimate emancipation of the nation. That in turn will lead to the removal of the systematic torture and murder of Iraqis including many children.

As a parent and grand parent, I would far rather have those I love killed instantly by a bomb than have them endure the fear and terror of seeing their families tortured and die agonising lingering deaths at the hands of the Ba'athist regime which practices these unspeakable cruelties.
