    I've got an ID on that animal for you. Sadly it is not a planigale/ antichinus/ quoll (these are all native insectivors/ carnivores and do not eat fruit).

    It eats fruit potentially making it a rodent. However, being arboreal it is not a native rat (unless a kangaroo rat - very rare/ extinct).

    Unless you live in the tropical regions of oz, where it could be a few possibilities, it is likely to be a black rat and you should have wacked it with a cricket bat. But hey, that's the opinion of an ecologist who hates exotics.

    Beauty is however in the eye of the beholder so I'll leave it at that.
