So you think bubbles should be allowed to get even bigger than they currently do, so you can sell your overvalued garbage at an even higher price to some poor sucker? Shorters play a vital role in markets, not only do they keep some sort of lid on prices, they also act as a brake in market crashes ... when markets get into a panic sell, the only real buyers left in the market are shorters covering their positions, without them crashes would be even bigger, just like bubbles would be bigger on the other side of the equation.
Basically if your stock is getting heavily shorted you should be asking yourself what you've missed, if you're right and the shorters are wrong then they will get run over and have to cover at a loss(short squeeze).
Off topic to shorters, I think you're seeing the case where a stock was accumulated ahead of an index add by index funds. Now the funds have their positions and the bid has disappeared. These index funds are there to match the index, they aren't like an other funds who actually need to make a profit on their positions and will help support the price
