This is his comment per infection. After infection, viruses have "a high mutation frequency that essentially renders the viral progeny a ‘swarm of mutants’, known as ‘quasi-species’".
I think both the virus swarm and the cancer swarm have broadly a similar dynamic. Might effectiveness against the virus swarm be something of a time condensed test of effectiveness against the cancer swarm? Viruses become variable so quickly while cancer takes it's time to become so.
