We don't know what is their thesis, we can only speculate and as I have written above the timing of shorting and information flows make my last idea unlikely.

Regarding the design advancement.
My opinion and it could be wrong.
Follow the money.
Design work on a relatively simple quarrying operation but a somewhat complex processing plant takes a lot of engineering hours and this costs money. Companies like Primero charge for these hours on monthly basis and as the design advances with more hours needed these costs increase. They may included the cost of design in the construction contract for mining heavyweights but ADN is still only a hopeful miner and would need to pay on ongoing basis.
When you look at the quarterly exploration and evaluation costs on ADN reports they have been spending about 1 million per quarter in last FY and the design has been reported as "Completed initial design" and the same amount in September quarter.
That cost includes all of the geological exploration and testing which has been ongoing all the time.
I just can't see how the design got into advanced stage without spending money on it.
I guess we will see in next quarterly report.

I agree with you that no orders will be placed before "decision to mine" is formally made.
This is not a problem from my point of view but it means that the start of operations will happen much later than what company stated before and what many posters here believe.
That last point is what can put pressure on SP.
