You would have had a much more expensive repair on your hands if it didn't work though - don't think i would have had the courage to take on that sort of risk. Crack repair Vs Joint replacement - I know which one I would be going with.
I am no structural engineer , but id imagine there was a lot more reinforcement and footing / piling work that would have had to take place. I would imagine that any sort of ground movement would induce stress fractures within the slab.
I personally would still have introduced some sort of control joints like a 3mm saw cut.
Nonetheless goes to show that the world is evolving and there isn't one way to skin a cat. Bravo to you and the engineer that designed it.
