I'm no economic or financial genius but I'd reckon you'd be better off selling a 1000 tonnes at $500/tonne rather that 500 tonnes at $1000/tonne.
The margins are reduced but at least you have some cash flow.
Chasing the "premium" end of the market may not have been the wisest strategy.
