I recall a study done some years ago on used car sales people. They basically planted two salesmen in a car yard and studied customers reactions to the two sales guys. The salesman they dressed in the fancy suits and with the hard sales spiel and a fancy car was far less popular and less trusted than the other salesman who was dressed in ordinary garb, engaged less in sales talk and drove a Toyota Corolla.
