Unfortunately too much of HC is as you describe, but in amongst all the manure there are some real pearls of wisdom.
I am far less concerned about vested interest (I assume everyone who posts on HC has some sort of vested interest), than if what they are posting is well reasoned and backed by evidence. Doing your own research is essential, but it is not a one-and-done activity, but something you have to do on a regular basis as the data changes. Good investments can become bad investments and bad investments can become good ones.
