Shares in Atlas Iron were lower after the iron ore miner said it had secured only 47.37 per cent of takeover target Giralia after extending its offer period by two weeks.

A condition of the takeover is that minimum acceptances reach 90 per cent.

Atlas has offered 1.5 Atlas shares for every Giralia share or 1.33 Atlas shares plus 50 cents cash for every Giralia share.

Giralia's board has recommended shareholders accept the offer.

The offer is now set to close on February 28, instead of February 14 previously.

Atlas shares were off eight cents, or 2.08 per cent, to $3.77 at 8.05am while Giralia shares were down 12 cents, or 2.11 per cent, to $5.58.
