re: drilling may be closer than we think! There you go...lastest update is that some problems have popped up with the drilling by AZA and some delay will occur while it is repaired. Now at 2,500m though so well on the way and problems are minor really.

The Basker-2 well has reached a depth of 2,497metres MDRT. At this depth while making a trip to change the bit the bottom hole assembly (BHA) became mechanically wedged in the blow-out preventor stack (BOP’s). The BHA has been released and recovered. A mechanical “storm packer” has been set inside the casing to secure the well. Currently the BOP is being pulled for inspection and repair, if necessary. Once the BOP’s operate satisfactorily they will be re-run to the sea floor, the “storm packer” retrieved from the well and drilling operations will recommence with a new bit at 2,497 metres MDRT.
