I'll back the commercial judgement of energy companies over the guardian's poor business acumen.

The Guardian is generally a very very good publication and has done some excellent investigative journalism in recent years e.g. wikileaks, news corp phone hacking, NSA/Prism and many others

It has a few blind spots though, like it's feminist bias and opinion writers who often stray onto topics they know very little about.
