Unfortunately their economy is like the products they make. At first they put in all the effort to give you value for money then they cut corners to have a consistent looking model but it falls apart almost immediately when purchased.

The have a long way to go to rival US. Start with some freedom of speech then remove nepotism/corruption, move up the lower classes so that there is more equitable share of wealth, revamp labor laws etc....... The list is too long to write and get tired of looking at an empty glass with some droplets and have to say it is half full!

Gold has a place in a portfolio like any commodity. Take out the emotive words traditionally associated with physical ie. conspiracy, US implosion, real money, and the debate can be healthier and more constructive.
