to use an analogy, the gold diggers weren't the ones who became rich, but the store keepers selling the water spades n pans.
Unfortunately you farmers are in the same boat as most other labour intensive professions... (you're working to make the middle man rich) So the only way the local farmer can improve their income is to upsell and value add, unfortunately, the average farmer is a hard working salt of the earth human being (proud of their duty to provide, but a lousy business person).
