There are too many people mining the stock exchange, not enough mining the ground". This phrase, currently attributed in the City to Aquarius Platinum's chief executive Stuart Murray, is perhaps a truth universally acknowledged in the mining sector. Still in platinum, it’s an interesting signpost of how things may shape up on the Bushveld. The company view is that the numbers just don't add up for a lot of the platinum juniors. Down the line, many of the projects being brought along are very deep with potentially huge working capital costs
So the Aquarius view is that the platinum price better stay very high if many of the current crop of juniors ever hope to see actual production from their projects.
Platinum Australia with its open pit mining at Kalplats avoids this scenario. Because PLA has lower costs than most this alone should be reason to accumulate shares for long term.
