Yes it simplifies the procurement of inputs a bit, but amorphous silica is a lower value product, and a lower volume product, meaning there is a big drop in potential revenue from it.
I believe the trade-off is sodium silicate is a complex thing to make well, and it's risky to be trying to make both at the same time. Plus, amorphous silica is a feedstock that can be used to make higher value products. I suspect there is R&D planned around this.
