I primarily view spec stocks like ADN as a capital growth play. Dividends are a nice to have but would prefer them to put cashflow to growth and building the company.

Looks like Northern Star paid their first dividend 2 to 2.5 years after they started growing. I think though realistically 4-5 years as you suggest. Maybe a special dividend in the first instance.

You generally get very choppy dividends from resources stocks so IMO you are better to have a dividend-focused portion of your portfolio if you want stability of dividend income. There are numerous investments on the ASX that are solid dividend-growth stocks ( where dividend-per share consistently grows ). IMO look for a mix that grows your dividend income per share consistently faster than the rate of CPI. Some investments on the ASX have been consistently growing dividends in this sort of fashion for 20 or more years.
