You are right that key issue is around discount rate. I remember on conf call (expect in transcript released) that CFO was being questioned about this. They were asking how PNC can propose a discount rate of 20% under amortised which I believe was stated as being the same as under their fair value was also 20% when PNC competitors apply a 40% rate. I believe this may mean these receivable assets are overvalued & similar for profits which possibly meant a front-loading with hence good results in early years, but issue coming to surface with accounting issue / profit downgrade recently.

I think someone previously did some analysis & questioned whether there was potential that capital raisings were used to cover some things up, but you would have to refer back to that.
