my speculation only but I think one reason you might take up your options well before they are due is so that your CGT clock starts ticking. Ownership for CGT purposes only starts when you pay for your options not when they are issued. I repeat pure speculation on my part but if I was expecting the company to sell in a year or so I would be taking up every option I could as soon as I could.
