You'd think so, but in practice, so many people continue to trust the US, because they've been brainwashed by the propaganda (e.g. Hollywood) that they've swallowed over the years.

If people didn't believe or trust the US anymore - why is the USD continuing to appreciate?

The reality is, that the US only cares about, or even knows about, the US. Nothing else matters, they will screw over anybody else, if it makes them a buck. As long as the rest of the world continues to see the US as a saviour, as the global policeman, or whatever other image the propaganda machine has turned out, then we will be beholden to the swings over there.

Once we recognise that we do not need the US, that we can stand on our own two feet, that we can deal with China and the rest of Asia (and the world) as we like, then why bother with the US? Only then will they be put in their place.
