Hi Stefan, good question. I always struggle with deciding to sell when a company is on a trajectory like APT. For many of us our APT journey has been life changing. The strategy for my SMSF is often different to my personal investment portfolio due to the different levels of risk I am prepared to take and the tax implications. This means that I am more likely to exit a share sooner in my SMSF so as to lock in future security. If the share price continues to rise the lower tax paid in SMSF sometimes lessens the pain of selling too early. This strategy also means that at least one nest egg is protected, especially when huge gains have made both portfolios overweight in one company.
