Don't think it's "slanderous" in the least. Companies have a lot of moving parts, a lot of people are privy to information and a few of them talk. That's why leaks are so common. I've worked at one listed company where this was a regular thing. Nothing malicious or indicative of bad management, it's just the way of things.
