what's gonna happen is:
some businesses are going to disappear [or have done eg. Lehmann bros., chrysler] while other businesses will grow and prosper because they survived and picked up the slack from competitors' failures [like aussie banks, toyota].

Also, new businesses will rise eg. alternative energy, technology which will also do well as they become big players.

If you invest in the right businesses, you'll do ok!
