Firstly they may be actively lending out shares to shorters for
a) a small revenue for lending them out
b) an opportunity to buy more at the reduced price (in this case greatly reduced!)
Secondly, instos do not feel the same pain that retail holders feel when the SP drops, and their time frames for the SP to recover are much more flexible.
It’s a dirty game right now but DEP results will end the ups and downs, one way or the other.
